Selective logging leads to an uneven-aged management scheme
where trees of various species and ages all exist together on one tract of
land. It can provide for regular income
from a tract of timber land without having to destroy the forest on it.
A wonderful example of how selective logging can protect a forest
and generate profits is the Pioneer
Forest of Missouri. Managed sustainably since 1951, the Pioneer Forest
covers some 160,000 acres. They also provide other landowners in the area
with management advice and help in development of management plans.
We are currently developing more information and a list of resources on
selective logging methods and will have them posted here soon.
